Transactional Analysis · TA101
Understanding more about you, your weight, body and eating using Transactional Analysis
We live in a time where food, body image, and weight are apparent in western society and shape our lives, influencing health, mental well-being, and our social interactions. Society surrounds us with messages about what to eat and how to look. This course explores the psychology of eating and weight through a Transactional Analysis (TA) lens. A specialist introduction to TA, offering a distinctive and unique perspective on eating, body and weight matters.
Led by Mandy Atkinson, Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst psychotherapist (TSTA) and registered TA101 trainer, the course provides the official TA101 certificate on completion.
This internationally recognised TA101 course offers a structured, compassionate space to learn about yourself, relationships and communication through the theory of Transactional Analysis (TA). Alongside the recognised TA101 curriculum, it is unique in that it brings a distinctive focus to the complex ways eating and our relationship with body and weight can be shaped by our experiences, relationships and the wider social world.
It provides an educational and reflective experiential learning experience. Within a compassionate, safe and confidential environment, the course will involve active participation and encourages your personal reflections, discussion and experiences. It invites learning that makes room for reflection

A specialist perspective on eating, body and weight
This course retains the core TA101 curriculum while offering a unique perspective that Mandy has developed on eating, body and weight for people who want to think more deeply about their own relationship with food, eating and the body. It introduces you to the psychology of food and eating.
It brings together established TA ideas with an exploration of both our script and our food script and the realities that can affect our relationships with food, the complex relationship between eating, size and body.
Whether your interest is personal, professional or organisational, this course invites curiosity, reflection and thoughtful discussion.

Course contributor

Sue Easeman, CTA, (P), has over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist. Many years ago Sue developed a particular interest in supporting individuals with eating and weight-related difficulties. Her specialist work began initially through an NHS initiative called Tipping the Balance, which focused on helping people who struggled to lose weight or maintain weight loss. Through this work, she came to understand the complexities and challenges connected with food, which are often about much more than eating habits alone. Her work has explored the deeper emotional, psychological, and relational issues evoked with eating and the body. In her approach, she enjoys focusing on helping people gain a greater understanding of themselves and their relationship with food, enabling lasting and meaningful change. It is an area she is passionate about.
Sue has also worked extensively with individuals preparing for bariatric surgery, providing therapeutic support as they adapt to the significant lifestyle and behavioural changes required both before and after surgery. This includes helping clients prepare for the strict dietary routines and emotional adjustments that are essential for long-term success following their procedure.
